There are many times in a Counter-Strike Source game when you might be the last man standing. All your teammates will be counting on you to give a good fight, while the opponents will most likely grin in premature celebration. You might be facing seemingly impossible odds like one on five. But don't let numbers frighten you. As Han Solo had once shouted, "Never tell me the odds", you should too! You can be Rambo, which might be improbable but not impossible. If you can somehow come out of the round alive and victorious, then you will be labeled a Clutch, you will be a hero. So when you are down to being alone, keep in mind the following pointers and you too might live to tell the tale of your valor.
The most important aspect of pulling a clutch is having the ability to stay calm and maintain your composure. You must not lose your nerves. Patience is the key. Be confident about yourself and think rationally, otherwise you will give yourself away to the enemies very easily.
See through the eyes of your enemy. This will take lots of practice, but when you have enough experience, you will know which points of the map make the perfect ambush spots or how enemies will respond to certain noise distractions. Try to think what you would have done if you were in the opposing team. Pulling a successful clutch is not all brute strength, for it also requires coolness of mind and ability to judge swiftly.
When you move, be stealthy. Running makes noise. So when you approach a crucial corner, either walk or crouch so that your enemies don't expect you. When engaging an enemy use a silencer, or use random noises for distraction. You must move like Garrett and kill like Altair.
Engage in one on one combats. Don't rush. There is a good chance that if you take one down, then others will come to that spot to get you, so use it to your advantage and find a good ambushing spot. Also your enemies might be rotating their positions to look for you, use this to your advantage too. But whatever you do, keep on the move in a defensive way. If you stay in one spot, your enemies will find you and hunt you down mercilessly.
Also, you must learn to know how your opponents play. Almost always the same people will try the same tactic in every round. So it's wise to remember who goes where. Some of your enemies might even have favorite spots, so it should be much easier to pick off such enemies. Keep track of how many enemies are left and which ones you should focus on. And don't forget to use sound cues. You'll probably need a good gaming headphone to get proper sound from the environment.
Now if you are on the terrorist's side, plant the bomb as soon as you can and hide. Hide in a good spot where you can't be seen or get flashbanged. When the bomb sound cue goes up, there is a good chance the enemy will start rushing towards the bomb, and in most cases, this will make the enemy panic unless they are very composed gamers. Use this to your advantage. Wait until the enemy starts defusing before you go out for the kill. If you come out of hiding too early, you might fall for the trap of fake diffuse. So be careful.
If you are on the Counter-Terrorist's side and you are up against only one opponent who has planted the bomb, then go for the above tactic of fake diffuse. The idea is to start diffusing and immediately stop and pray that the enemy made the mistake of coming out early.
Finally, make sure to keep an eye on the clock. If you are on the terrorist's side and you are in a bomb map, then you better take out the enemy fast or plant the bomb. But if you are on the counter-terrorist's side then wasting the time away and delaying the enemy is the perfect idea of a victory. So use the clock to your advantage depending on which team you are on and in which map.
So practice the above tips and try to apply it with a cool head. Practicing such scenarios with your clan members is a great idea to build this skill. You don't have to be a regular clutch tomorrow. Even Rome wasn't built in a day. So take your time to practice and you will be well on your way to becoming a hero for your team.
