6.5 sensitivity is a lot to me. Mine is default, 3. Do you need high sensitivity to be good? If so about how long does it take to get used to?

Actually, I personally think lower sensitivity is better. 3.0 is a good average, and I actually use that right now. I used to use 2.0 and it worked well also. The higher the sensitivity, the less precise your movements are and thus the less precise your aim is, there's no argument there, just simple fact. To what degree YOU can be precise is what you should set your sensitivity at. If it feels too fast for you, and you cannot "lock on" to your target, then it's too high. However, if you cannot turn around fast enough to shoot someone that's behind you, it's too slow. Find your happy medium.

I like 3.0 because it is really easy to follow your enemy and aim at the neck, yet also when I get fired from behind I can do a 180 turn in one motion and fire at the enemy.

I've heard of a few people having success with a trackball, I tried it because in theory I believe it would be more precise, however, I sucked balls with it and gave up.

Wow trackball. Learn how to use a mouse and set used to it - its the second most important piece of hardware you need to play cs well.
I recommend the diamondback or copperhead from razer. Logitechtech's mouses are ok too when you take out the weight they put in them.

I don't use a trackball, but a couple guys I know swear by it. It just takes a butt load of getting used to. The only real advantage to it is the ergonomic benefits. Of course, from a typing aspect, they say the most ergonomic keyboard would be a Sphere... Crazy Scientists.

egronomics are for wusses.
Apparently correct spelling is for wusses as well.
It's not 1337 if you don't feel sore afterwards, if it's not misspelled, or if it's
Man you need to learn how to rough it; Back in my day we didn't sleep, and when they introduced it, we slept on shards of glass and rusty nails in a snake pit that was on fire. Why? Because in my country that's how things were done.
Oh, and Pig, just so we're clear; What is the Most important piece of hardware you need to play cs well if a mouse is the 2nd?

Isn't it obvious?? its your PC, your rig, your hog, your pwning machine. A good pc is needed for you to get a solid 99 fps in CS:S.
Many people see that their rig can get around 60 to 200 fps. This is a big delta (200 fps- 60 = 140 difference) which will result in CS running very choppy and your gameplay will be inconsistent. You need to set your fps_max to the highest and most stable your rig can be. My alienware gets similar fps - from 60 to 200 if i leave fps_max =200. But when I cap it to fps_max 99 I get a constant 99 fps throughout my gameplay - CS runs really smoothly. This will give you a big advantage over a noob who does not know about this yet has a killer Rig compared to you.

the most important thing for your cs experience is doing jumping jacks before you play.

Lol. Back in the day I had a P2-333 and a Voodoo Raven card. I got ~15fps in CS. I was horrible.
I suddenly became good the day I upgraded to an Althlon 800 MHz!

rofl.
i remember when i was the first person in my gaming community to get an AMD Athlon 900mhz, an ungodly 256 RAM, and a 16meg TNT2 graphics card.
i was the "leet rig LPB whore"
sadly i only got like 50 fps lol.
