I would say start out with somewhat of a high sensitivity...mayb 3 or more...then as you get used to the mouse you can work your way down.

I used to play with a sensitivity of 14 when i was noob.

Brought it down to seven first.

then 5.

3....

2.3...

now i'm at .3 haha.

This was all over a period of months though.

I use 1.5 CS sensitivity with default WinXP sens. it's pretty slow.

mouse sens figures mean nothing. you could have your in game sens at 1 but with a 2000dpi mouse with its drivers set to 10 and windows set high you could do a 180 in 5cm or less

sens = distance traveled

tetsuo
03-03-2006, 09:06 AM
both have their advantages, i started with a low sens 30cm for a 180 which was good at the start but over time i worked my way down to 10cm for a 180. i still have the same acc, but i can snap on to people in a second and have good vision around the map.

as with most things its what you find best. some like low some like high

wow....you people have relatively low sensitivty compared to me. Maybe its because i'm using the dell mousepad (LOL!) but mine is 11.5, for sensitivities of 6 or 3....i have to make the largest movemets with my hand just to aim at some guy. BTW, mine isn't too big, i know people that use 14 and i know 1 guy that uses 20 for scouting....

My sensitivity is 6.5 since CS 1.3

I don't really know what all the fuss is about trying to get the "best" sensitivity. As long as you have full control and feel comfortable with the sensitivity, it can be very low or high.

Yeah but the higher the combo, the higher the points.
and you can spend points on stuff like:
alone time(for pwning n00bs!): 500 points.
NOT HAVING TO WATCH A CHICKFLICK: 1000 points
etc etc

Well to be honest when I first started playing I used to play with 2.0 and below, I did go to 2.4 but then stayed there. Not until I switched to Source really did I go higher, now I do anywhere between 3.0-7.0 although anything past 5 on my mouse is really to hecticly fast.

Your sens is going to revolve around other factors too...your mouse, mousepad, desk space, and personal control. Some players can control sickly high sens and stop their cursor on the dime where they want. If you can do that then keep it high. Problems I see when people have higher is problem with long range combat, but again close range they are very strong. If you have a small mousebad and a shitty mouse... stick with high. A nicer size mousepad and a smooth mouse you'll prob have it lower. But everything isnt just done ingame....Their is CPL mouse fix which many players use, some people use default window sens and others use lower or higher. In the end there is no BEST way to go because many players are different. One thing that I have gone by since 1.5 is that I try to do a 180 when I bring my mouse from side to side disregarding speed....But pulling a 180 is almost poinless when you play at higher levels because there is a point where those teams dont miss if you have your back turned. This is all opinion and again I am always for personal experiment on things like this.

i use highest setting in my xp settings, in cs:s i started out with 12 to 11 to 10 to 7 to 6 to 5 to 4.5 to 4 to 3.7 to 3.5 to 3.3. Using 3.3 currently

tetsuo

i think the best way to pick a sens is not to go for what feels easy/natural but what you think you'll be able to do best with when you master it.

i'm at 10cm for a 180 and i use to be a low sens person. if felt bad at first but thats the sens i felt would be best once i mastered it. now it feels smooth but i can also track people moving across me at high speeds, all with the wrist.

wow that sounds high but what is it roughly in distance traveled for a 180?

about 3 inches for a 90 degree turn. 6 inches for 180

Grimm

id get pwnt if i did that 3 inches

DeadFerret

its all preference.

What i did is i set it so that when i turn my wrist like 70-90 degrees it turns that same amount in game.

For my windows sens, mouse, i set my CSS to 2.3 for that

It is preference, first and foremost. I've seen people own with 10 sensitivity, and with 1.2.

However, lower is technically better because it forces you to use your whole hand and even arm to aim, rather than just your wrist. When you use your whole hand, you are using more muscles, thereby generating more control.

I keep mine at default to be honest, or maybe a little higher. High control but also easy to turn to an enemy quickly.

High sens really does suck for me, especially when I'm aiming at somebody far away.

i think if u start out at a high sens and slowly lower it. it greatly increases ure acuracy when i started cs i played a 14 sens i dropped to 12 then 10 then 8 then 6 and i am stuck at a six but i think if i would have started at a six and stayed at it. i wouldnt have as much accuracy as i do now.

frentik

low sens all the way. LOWER than 3. anything over, and your just ridiculous. unless you use a tiny tiny miniscule mousepad, have a low sens. also, its not only about the sens, you want a good mousepad too

i use the default sensitivity..it seems to work best for me....not to slow or to fast:)

tetsuo
02-13-2007, 08:23 AM
listing sens fiqures means nothing guys, its all about how far you need to move the mouse for a 180 mine is 3"=180 and my sens in cs is 1.0 and default in windows. 3"=180 is high sensitivty though.

I used 11 for a long time but I recently converted from DoD to CS and now mine is at 6.5. I would have an extremely hard time playing if I lowered it anymore than that. As I posted in the other sensativity thread about low sensativity = accuracy, "I'm not sure if it's true or not but I used 11 until I got the userconfig. The downsides I experienced was it took longer to get used to than say 5 or 6 and when I was startled I basically died. The upside is obviously that your crosshair is quicker."

I started out with 6.5 due to pigs config, moved to 4.5,then to 3.3 then to 3.0,etc and kept going on and found out rewskys sensitivity tried it first and wonderded how its possable to play with a senstiivity at .5 even though i have a razer copperhead and 2000 dpi then I switched to 1.1 for a while and then i tried .5 agian for some random reason and it increased my accuarcy like crazy, turing for sprays is hard but otherwise it pwns. All this changing happend in a months period haha i changed it alot but found .5 rules and probley gonna stick with it. After using it for a lil like 3 days i believe it feels like a normal sensitivty besides the whole turning around for spray thing. Super fast and super slow sensitivies you must get used to.

personally i use this:

mouse: razer copperhead
polling rate: 1000 Hz
Dpi: 800
Windows sensitivity: middle notch
Ingame sensitivity: 1.4
also i use cpl mousefix and -noforcemaccel
i dont bother with -noforcemparms and -noforcemspd
and i have a raptor/steel series 60 X 40cm mousemat

Low sens gamers ftw, i used to play a sens of 16 when i had my dell ball mouse, man that was only a year ago, my pc couldnt even play de_dust2 then O_O

I like the sensitivity so that you almost have to use the whole mouse pad to do a 180 turn. I reckon that its far more natural to use more muscles on your arm and you're less likely to get rsi (in my opinion).
