Man, I remember being so excited to see the release of Final Fantasy VIII. Played Final Fantasy VII so much that my expectations were high storyline-wise. Squandered $130 CDN for both the game and guide when it came out, but... what the hell is this? This is not the mature Final Fantasy I've come to love! I can already tell by the opening cinematic where this game's gonna go: innocent-and-pure-damsel-in-distress-rescued-by-the-handsome-young-fighter-against-oppression. Everyone giving a wide-eyed, soulful look on their faces complete with sweeping romantic score to supply you the emotions. :roll: I can just picture them in a great, big kiss at the ending, Disney-style, where the bad lose and the good win. Well hey, now I can play a Final Fantasy game that my girlfriend wants me to keep playing! :wink:

Even if I am part of a minority, I'll be one of the few with courage enough to say/admit that the story of Final Fantasy VIII is a sappy sack of soggy horseshit. That in itself turned me off from the whole FF experience until Final Fantasy IX came the year after. Give me any other title in the series from FFIX down, any title below that. I'd settle for Mystic Quest, for cryin' out loud; anything to deliver this turkey to the abattoir.
