Get the thunder 8. You can read my review on the mouse pad here:

The thunder8 has 2 sides to it: a speed and control side. I use the speed side personally and payne uses the control (rougher) side.
The thuder 9 does not have this feature but is larger in size. The thunder 9 has only 1 side and you either buy the control or speed style.
So I suggest you get the thunder 8 - you can't go wrong with it. Just like the Razer diamondback.

I have a copperhead and am currently using the Razer Mantis Control mouse pad, it doesn't skip or anything.

thunder 8 is awesome i prefer speed i think it has even better control but if it gets scratched up you gotcha switch because different areas will feel odd

It gets scratched up because your mouse skates gets worn down and the plastic rubs on it. When that happens your mousepad is gone and you have to flip it or rotate it 180 degrees. So now I just buy mouse skates for my razer every year or so and my mousepad looks as good as new after a wash.
There are 2 mouse skate makers that I know of which I bought from both of them.
My ratings below:
1. Corepad -5/5
2. hyperglide -3.5/5
