The process of building a top notch gaming system seems to constantly entail a battle of two brands. First, you must choose which processor (Intel or AMD) to build the system around. Then there is the choice of graphics card (ATI or nVidia) that will handle the games. After the system is finalized, a worthy gaming mouse must be chosen. Surely enough, the choice of a top tier gaming mouse is a battle of two brands: Logitech and Razer.

Sure there are other gaming mouse brands, just as there are other brands of video cards and processors; but these two brands offer the absolute best. Each has their own respective claim to fame in the realm of gaming mice. Each has just released their own "mother of them all" gaming mouse: G5 from Logitech and Copperhead from Razer. Both these mice are equipped with the latest technologies that set them far apart from all other gaming mice. Both are also equipped with their own revolutionary features that sets them apart from each other. Just what are all these technologies and features? Read on and find out.

Packaging:

Coincidently, the Logitech G5 and the Razer Copperhead's packaging have a rather similar look. The Logitech G5 comes packaged in a green background, full colored retail box. The front of the box has a hyperbolic cutout which exposes the blister enclosed Logitech G5 mouse. Also on the front is an icon list of the mouse's features as well as an icon proudly reflecting Logitech as the "#1 world leader in mice."

Conclusion:

When paired with an adequate mouse pad, both Razer's Copperhead and Logitech's G5 offers the fastest and smoothest cursor tracking I have ever seen in a computer mouse. Performance wise, you cannot go wrong with either as either one will surely bring improvements to your gaming. This is accredited to the amazing Agilent tracking both mice share. However, what sets the Copperhead and the G5 apart is their physical design and respective unique features. If you are in the fortunate position of choosing one of these mice, the following things should be considered to help make your decision.

First off, if you are a person who uses the mouse with your left hand, then there is no choice as the Copperhead is the only way to go. For the majority who uses the mouse with the right hand, the main attributes that make the Razer Copperhead stand out over the G5 would be the unadulterated oversized main buttons and the Synapse onboard memory which allows the mouse to retain all the button assignments (up to 5 profiles) and other settings no matter what computer it is used on.

The main attributes that make the Logitech G5 stand out over the Copperhead are the compulsively customizable weight adjustment system and well placed DPI adjustment system with accompanying DPI meter.

Razer Copperhead

Pros:

  • Extremely accurate cursor tracking
  • Native Polling Rate adjustment
  • Ambidextrous design
  • Oversized main buttons
  • Notched scroll wheel
  • Synapse onboard memory stores settings on the mouse itself
  • Nice glowing and pulsating lighting effects

Cons:

  • No visual DPI setting indication
  • Side buttons are awkwardly placed and have unnecessary resistance
