If you liked the Razer Deathadder like me then you will love the Razer Mamba. It is basically a Deathadder with more features and 2 extra buttons. The Mamba is marketed as a wireless mouse with the option to convert to a wired mouse. I play games mostly in the wired mode with this mouse.

The Razer Mamba is an impressive PC gaming mouse. From its packaging to its performance, every thing is remarkable. It contains 3G laser sensor of 5600DPI, much greater than an ordinary mouse. It has 1ms of response time. The bad thing about it is its price, almost $120 to $130. The gamers that can’t afford it cannot take advantage of this awesome mouse. I personnaly have it set at 1800dpi and don’t need a higher dpi unless playing games on a 46″ hdtv. Like the deathadder, the sensor does sense your movement when you lift the mouse up slightly from the surafce which I like. Some might think that because it is a wireless mouse that it will weigh more, but it actually weighs about the same as the Deathadder. You can also remove the battery while in wired mode to make it weigh less. I personnally have the battery left in the mouse – the weight is light enough. It is a little heavier than the razer copperhead but you can get used to it fairly quickly.

The shape of the mouse is very comfortable. Again, if you like the Deathadder’s shape, the Mamba is a little impovement on it with a coated surface for better grip. The mouse wheel also feels better on the Mamba. You will find that the top surface of the Mamba is coated with the rubber like substance which is very helpful to enhance the grip. The sides and the outer surface is shiny black. You will also find DPI indicator in the left side. The mouse wheel color is blue, very attractive in the dark room.

This mouse is perfect for PC gamers. If you are using wireless than battery time is 14 hours if you are continuously gaming otherwise 72 hours for normal usage. The size of the Razer Mamba mouse is 5 * 2.7*1.6 inches. It can easily work on all operating system like Vista, XP, 2000 and also Vista 64. So, this is a perfect gaming mouse for the gamers.

You can buy the mouse on Amazon here: Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Laser Mouse 5600 DPI

The Razer Copperhead added a few upgrades to the highly rated Razer Diamondback which includes an increase in DPI to up to 2000dpi, and polling rate to 1000Hz. Other additions are the on board memory to store 5 profiles, and a slightly narrower design. The mouse itself is light (about the same weight as the diamonback) and glows in different colors. The cord is positioned like the diamonback on the front about 1cm above the base of the mouse. Another plus about the cord is that it is light and long about six feet.

After having gone through about 8 razer copperheads, I can definitely say that the quality of the copperhead is much below Razer’s diamondback. Some problems I had with the mouse included double clicking of the left mouse button, cold boot (razer drivers not loading when PC starts), mouse feet coming off, the rubber sidings getting really dirty and peeling after about 6-8 months, and for some copperhead mouse sensor skipped or the LED did not respond randomly once in a while.

Even with all of those problems, when the copperhead is working correctly, it is a top gaming mouse for FPS and even beats the diamond back in response and sensitivity, and control. Too bad they only work correctly for about 4-6 months max then the problems mentioned above show up. You can pick these up in amazon.com or ebay. There are the new 3G copperheads that addresses some of the LED and clicking problems but they introduce new ones. The new 3G copperheads have lower quality LED in my opinion for fps games. You can not lift the mouse up more than even a millimeter if you want the LED to register the movements. The old or the first copperheads had really good optics that picked up movements even when a gamer lifted up the mouse slightly it tracked perfectly. Stay away from the new Razer Copperheads with the 3G sensors.

WoP Ratings:

Function: 9.5/10 when working

Value: 6/10

Quality: 6/10

Overall: 8.5/10 WoP Recommended

The HP Blackbird 002 was ordered on Hp’s Blackbird website here: https://h20435.www2.hp.com/Default.aspx

The configuration process was simple with the latest hardware available on the Blackbird 002LC and LCi models. The LCi model has both the video cards and cpu liquid cooled for ultra gaming performance and was a main reason why I decided to get the Blackbird. There are some items on the configuration like the Voodoo mouse and keypad that are way overpriced. Also you can see that they are actually reselling them on ebay here for half of what they are trying to ship with your blackbird PC: http://cgi.ebay.com/Voodoo-Deathadder-Mouse-and-Tarantula-Keyboard_W0QQitemZ250296110907QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

There is no option for an extended warranty with 1 year being the default and only option I saw. The estimated delivery date shows up on the subtotal tab on the site and is averaging 2 weeks right now. This is actually much better than other competitive PC’s like Alienware and Dell’s Gaming XPS system which are averaging about 3-4 weeks (ouch!). From the time I bought my Blackbird to the time I got it, it was only 10 Days! There is no progress or status page that tells you what stage your PC build is in like Alienware or Dell but with a build speed like that, who needs it. There was an email confirming the order and an email telling you when the PC is shipped.

All the Blackbirds are assembled in Calgary CA, the plant Voodoo uses to make their PCs. Now the quality of the build is top notch and the internal wiring is very clean, organized, and tight. Just looks like they put a lot of attention and care into making each PC.

Here are the specs of my blackbird:

HP BLACKBIRD 002 LCi – Total Cost: $6,840

- Quad Core – Intel® Core2™ Extreme Quad-Core 3.2GHz QX9770
- 8GB 1600 MHz CORSAIR PC-12800 DDR3 SDRAM (4x2GB)
- CPU and Graphic Cards Liquid Cooling (Nvidia Graphics)
- EVGA nForce™ 790i Ultra
- Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX-280, with 1GB of GDDR3 SDRAM (LC)
- Creative Audio Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional
- RAID (0) Performance – 2 x 300GB 10,000 rpm SATA
- 1.1KW Power Supply
- Super multi-drive, slim slots with Lightscribe (DVD+/-R/RW+/-DL)
- Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate (64 Bit)
- Grisoft AVG Professional Anti-Virus – 1 year subscription
- CyberLink DVDPlay
- CyberLink DVDPlay HD/BD
- CyberLink PowerDirector
- CyberLink Power2Go
- CyberLink LabelPrint
- HP PC Doctor
- Recovery DVD
- 1 year limited hardware and 1 year technical support

The PC came in one big box with a total weight of about 80 lbs. The shipping was $150 and took about 2 days to get to my door. Opening up and assembling the PC was very easy. The PC itself weighs about 70lbs and feels very sturdy – full aluminum sides and steel top and bottom base. The one feature that almost every reviewer is highlighting about the case is the door panel taht swings open with just one pull. And I have to admit that it really is a big plus. The case really looks nice and is about the same size as the Alienware’s case and a bit smaller than the Dell’s XPS case. A window on the side to show off the guts of this machine would be nice. Intead, HP has the cases with glossy side aluminum panels with some abstract pictures.

Performancewise this thing is a beast and easily holds Counter Strike Source at 150 fps max constantly playing all maxed settings in 30 man pubs. Maxing out the fps to 300, it will drop to 200ish at gun battles or custom maps. The most recent game I ran with it is Fallout 3 with max settings and it runs very very smooth. I played fallout 3 on my old PC and the difference is very noticable. To take full advantage of 4+ gigs of ram you will need to select the Vista or XP 64 bit versions. Vista may be new and romured to be full of bugs but once you get used to it, you can never go back. Just like if you have xp, you can’t go back to 2000 or heaven forbid if you have 2000 and go back to 98. Yuk. A downside to Vista is that many PC games I own like Kotor 2, Stronghold, Mass Effect can not run on Vista or are buggy on Vista. But New games are Vista compatible.

Liquid cooled CPU and graphics cards make this PC one of the quietest PC’s I have. There are two fans on top that are the only noticeable fan/humming sounds that the PC produces when playing graphic intense games like Cyrsis for long periods of time.

To take advantage of the power of this PC I recommend hooking it up to an HDTV with hdmi cables.

Pros: The cool case with cool side door, liquid cooled CPU and graphic cards, alternative to Alienware and Dell gaming PC’s, Quick build orders

Cons: No option for side window on case to show off the beastly innards

WoP Rating:

Performance: 4.5

Quality: 5

Value: 4.5

Overall: 5 ** WoP Recommends **

the total cost of the configured Blackbird was $6,840 – value is relative depending on each gamer, but if cost is not an issue most gamers would want to experience running the Blackbird on a HDTV.
[phpbay]alienware, 6, “”, “”[/phpbay]

I got my Dell XPS 700 last month and I know everyone wants a review of the PC from a gamer’s point of view. Well, here it is:

The specs on the Dell XPS 700 completely blow away what I had previously. I was running on a Dell 8300 I got about 4 years ago. At that time, it was a top of the line PC. I was lucky to get 60 FPS on the lowest settings while playing CS on that Dell 8300.

Here are the major specs for the formula Red edition Dell XPS 700 that I ordered including monitor:

CoreTM2 Duo processor E6700 (2.67GHz)

2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz – 2 DIMMs

20 inch Ultra Sharp 2007FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel

Dual 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Cards, Quad SLI

320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst CacheTM

Sound Blaster(r) X-FiTM XtremeMusic (D), w/Dolby(r) Digital 5.1

1 kilowatt Power Supply

4 year warranty

The total Price: $3,855.86

I ordered the Dell on October 5, 2006 and received it on October 9, 2006. There was a lot of controversy about the Dell XPS 700 delays and about customers waiting months to receive theirs. I guess Dell fixed the problems and I was lucky.

Some pics:

Almost evey time I heard the word Dell I would imagine a dull gray box in my head. Well, not any more. The case, design, and workmanship of the Dell XPS 700 is top-notch. The PC is HUGE but it is incredibly silent and looks totally LEET. I actually like how big the case is. You can open the side panel and see how roomy it is inside – a good thing if you want to mod or add components.

A minor quirk with the Dell XPS 700 is the oddly designed buttons for front panel CD drives and the power button. When the cd drive is open, the button gets almost covered by the cd door, it can get annoying trying to find the button to press to get the cd drive to close again. The power button is also odd. It is always very stiff and you need to give it a very firm press to turn the rig on.

My dell also came with a 20 inch Ultra Sharp 2007 flat panel widescreen monitor. The first thing I did was install steam and counter strike. I then set the highest possible settings for the best image quality with the wide flat panel – 1680×1050 resolution, 8x antialiasing, 16 anisotropic filtering, full High Dynamic Range, and highest models. I hopped into a server and put on net_graph – 200 FPS!!! What more does a gamer want? You can get the max 300 FPS (frames per second) on CS: source during the stress test with this setup, but during a real game and match the average FPS is around 150. Since you can only get a refresh rate of 100Hz (100 refresh per second) even with a CRT monitor 100 frames per second is perfectly adequate for smooth gaming. Playing CS:S with the wide screen and max settings was a whole new gaming experience. You can get so immersed in the game graphics and environment that you can actually feel like you are in there. You actually have to turn your head during the game which further adds to the reality of the gameplay. However, during matches, I switch back to my old dell CRT monitor. The reason is the refresh rate of the Ultra Sharp 2007 is just not meant for competitive gaming of a First person shooter. The core 2 duo processor makes gaming and working on this PC a pleasure. There is virtually no to wait for a process to end before you run another program or application. I have not seen the CPU at a constant 100% and making strange noises like my old processor on the Dell 8300 always did.

This mousepad is made of steel and has two sides. One for speed and one for control. I tried it for about 2-3 weeks and just never got used to it. It seems to be very durable and did not have any scratches on it after 3 weeks. Some of the things I didn’t like about it is that it feels too thin. The tracking on it with my Razer diamondback and Copperhead seems too weak. As in I cant do twitch shots accurately for some reason. I thought it was just me but the instant I change my mousepad to one of my other ones, I have like 50% more accuracy and make more of my AWP shots. This did not happen in just 1 or 2 occassions or days, it was consistent over 3-4 weeks. Even now – just before writing up this review I tested it again in awp_india and I couldn’t hit Jack Squat with this mouse pad.

Don’t listen to that noob on the video. If you are serious about getting a good mouse pad for CS then this is NOT it. I do not recommend this mousepad. It is just sitting in a corner of my room now. Cool looking box and quality but not worth the price and not for true fps gamers.

A good gaming mouse is essential when you want that extra edge in your gaming performance, especially in first person shooters. Its a critical piece of hardware that with add of decrease your performance by +/- 20%. Here is a gaming mouse that I think is quite possibly the best gaming mouse on the market today. Its the Razer Diamondback gaming mouse.

Features = 5/5

This mouse has everything that all the latest gaming mouses are striving for. Skip-free movement tracking with an 1600dpi optical resolution, on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment which allows you to adjust your sensitivity even when your playing CS with a touch of a button, seven fully customizable buttons, a carrying pouch if you travel with your mouse, and it lights up! The only thing I missed on this mouse was that it does not have a tilting wheel like the Microsoft intellimouse. However, that feature does not have any real use in games.

Performance = 5/5

A mouse can be really fancy and pricey with emphasis on non-skipping tracking on up to 15G acceleration, state of the art optical led (or lasers now), cool packaging, 10+ buttons, and so on. But it all boils down to performance for gaming mouses. Fortunately this mouse does not disappoint. The first thing you will notice about this mouse when you actually use it for gaming is that it is light weight and has excellent ergonomics.

The grove at the sides are not too deep like the chunky and heavier Logitech 500′s+ now. So when combined with its lightweight, this mouse is highly maneuverable while maintaining high controllability. Many gamers, including myself, like to actually lift the mouse up off the mouse pad to readjust once in awhile when gaming. The Razer Diamondback mouse seems to be designed for that. The left and right mouse buttons are large and responsive plastic areas. The other buttons are smaller and are located at the sides of the mouse. I have not accidentally pressed one of there “extra” buttons when gaming and find that they are in good locations. I don’t really use them often so others who do may complain that there are actually too hard to reach. Like the two small buttons on the right-most side of the mouse needs your pinky or ring finger to press them, which feels weird. As stated this mouse has 1600 DPI resolution and I have not encountered any problems with it skipping during gameplay even with high sensitivity settings.

Value = 5/5

I’ve been using this mouse for about about a year and find that its the best mouse that I have every brought. Its light weight and very durable. The buttons have not lost any of their “bounce” even with hours of gaming. The pads on the bottom just needs a wash once in awhile to keep dust from collecting at the edges. They are still very smooth and only have slight scratches that really don’t affect performance. There are constant minor improvements from the driver updates that are available from the Razerzone website.

Where to buy:

You can buy these mouses directly from the Razerzone website at $59.99

World of Pwnage Score: 90/100

In summary, this is an excellent gaming mouse based on performance and I think it is the best gaming mouse available today. Its price is reasonable when compared to other gaming mouses from logitech with similar (or most likely less) features.

The most important piece of hardware for an FPS gamer besides his godly PC is the mouse he is using. There are a lot of new mouses on the market today with the label “Gaming Mouse” being slapped on to their packaging by companies. World of Pwnage will be reviewing a series of mouses in the upcoming posts to find out which one is the BEST for fps games like counter-strike. This week my Logitech G9 came in the mail and here is my review on it. (Note: I played Counter-Strike source Deathmatch, a scrim and just regular pubbing for about a total REAL play- time of about 4 hours with this mouse before writing this review.) This mouse is not too tough to get comfortable and used to.

Out Of The Box and First Impressions

The G9 comes in a sturdy and well laid out box with clear view plastic. There was more item in the package than what I have pictured below. The package includes the G9 mouse, 2 grips, gaming weight system in a neat aluminum box, and an instruction manual with some registration papers. It does not come with any CD though. Instead it said to download the latest drivers at logitech’s site. Downloading and installing the software and firmware was fast.

Design

Holding the G9 for the first time I have to say that is feels really comfortable and stable. However, a noticeable trait that I do not like in most “gaming” logitech mouse is the front and rear-end design. Logitech mouses generally have mouse designs geared more towards the casual gamers who play games that do not require much twitch/reflex/skill in precise mouse movements. The mouse is designed so that the gamer does not lift the mouse up off the table – NOT even a fraction of a millimeter for quick repositioning and AWP flick shots I’m so used to with razer mouses. This is still the case for this G9 mouse which is not so much of a disappointment because I expected it, but it is a MAJOR negative to any true gaming mouse. (Yes that is the “Top Chef” Cookbook and it’s L33T).

Another noticeable design of the G9, as in most logitech mouse, is that it is “rear-heavy” – the weight is distributed so that about 60-75% of the weight is located at the end of the G9 where your palm may rest on it. I do not know why they do this but this is also a MAJOR negative in my opinion as a FPS gamer because it again reinforces you to not lift the mouse off the table and to play with more emphasis on your palm-elblow movement instead of movement with your finger-tips/wrist – if you do not know what I’m talking about then you’re a new gamer NOOB who thinks World of Warcraft involves the same intensity and mouse movement precision as a FPS game like Counter-Strike. A simple analogy would be like trying to paint an intricate painting using the degrees of movement in your shoulders and elbows instead of using the precision movements in your wrist and fingers. Duh! Who’s the Engineering Project Manager who approved of the design?

Having said that, the weight system is just rendered useless because the weights just put more weight near the middle/end of the mouse adding to the use of the less precise movements in your elbow and even your shoulders in order to move the mouse.

The wire of the G9 is braided – making it very rigid and heavy when compared to other gaming mouses. This is defiantly a negative even though it makes the G9 appear to be more sturdy and not flimsy. In the end, the heavy wire hurts performance especially for gamers who like playing with very high sensitivity settings like myself. Fighting against the mouse wire is frustrating, and feeling movement caused by the inflexibility of the wire will make you want to take a wire stripper to the crap that’s on the G9′s wire.

Also the wire attached to the G9′s front is placed at the bottom of the mouse as seen in the picture. So again, if you lift the mouse’s back up to reposition, it will rub against your mousepad. Not cool at all. The picture above shows the Noobish design of the wire and wire placement.

The front and end of the mouse are not beveled – a feature I like to have in my mouse. Payne is sick enough to actually take a file and bevel his logitech mouse’s edges.

Comparing the weight of the Razer copperhead with the G9, the G9 is a bit heavier but with studier buttons. Again, the G9 comes with 2 mouse grips with one feeling a little rougher than the other and one with a wider support for the thumb. They both felt comfortable for me. I also played without the grips which is actually not too bad either. Other features of the mouse include a button on the bottom of the mouse to toggle the scroll wheel between clicking and being smooth, a led system to pick any color you want, and a built in profiler.

Performance

This mouse does deliver on precision and accuracy with its 3200DPI and high polling rate feature. Lifting the bottom of the mouse up does cause it to skip a little as it is not designed to be operated like that. The left and right mouse buttons are large and responsive and feel every durable. The other buttons are are located at the sides of the mouse which are comfortable to press. All the buttons can be programmed with the Logitech’s software.

Where to buy:

You can buy these mouses directly from the Logitech
website at $99.99 retail price or go to Amazon and pick them up for $79 with

Scores:
Quality: 5/5
Design: 3/5
Performance: 4/5

Overall =

In summary, this is sturdy gaming mouse with many features that make it look and feel like a valuable mouse. However, some features hurt the performance of the mouse dramatically even though the tracking is top notch for the mouse. The 3 main flaws are the inflexible and heavy mouse wire, the weight distribution of the mouse towards the end, and the design for this mouse to not be lifted up at all when tracking.

Next we will review the Razer Lachesis, Boomslang, etc
